Over 1 million dollars in Growing Greener Grants have been administered by the Clarion Conservation District to design projects that improve water quality in Clarion County. 

Included are the construction of agriculture best management practices, abandoned oil and gas well plugging, and abandoned mine surface reclamation.

WELL-PLUGGING PROJECTS

Many artesian flows, laden with iron and acid, originate from abandoned oil and gas wells drilled in the late 1800's.

These wells degrade water quality and benthic habitat.  Grant funds have been used to plug over 90 wells in Clarion County, improving miles of stream water.
